Week 4 – Disorientation

Haanel: 24. Over-work or over-play or over-bodily activity of any kind produces conditions of mental apathy and stagnation which makes it impossible to do the more important work which results in a realization of conscious power.

Being the observer, I’m right where I need to be in the grand scheme of this work.

Overwhelmed by my circumstances as I have created them – doing what I must as is appropriate .

I am where I need to be – should be – because I am at the point of intersection of my past circumstances as derived from my past ways of thinking; and my effort to direct my “world-within” – persistently and continuously – with deliberately chosen thoughts and emotions toward the optimal circumstances imagined for my future self.

Haanel: 22. The Universal cannot express through you as long as you are busy with your plans, your own purposes; quiet the senses, seek inspiration, focus the mental activity on the within, dwell in the consciousness of your unity with Omnipotence.

It’s messy. As the observer, I see that it will remain messy until I am a savant at quieting my senses, seeking inspiration, and focusing my mental activity on the “within.”

Haanel: 27. (To develop the faith, the courage, the feeling to artfully direct my will toward my desires requires developing my mental strength): (M)ental strength is secured in exactly the same way that physical strength is secured, by exercise. We think something, perhaps with difficulty the first time; we think the same thing again, and it becomes easier this time; we think it again and again; it then becomes a mental habit.

It’s more than mere repetition. Serious mental strength is required, and can only grow in intensity through use (G.U.T.S.!). I must consciously and continuously flex my will by directing my thoughts and actions away from my “addicted” circumstances – and towards my deliberately chosen thoughts and emotions fueling the creation of the optimal circumstances imagined for my future self in the world without.

Out of that, my mental strengh will grow.

The battle is engaged. It’s messy. And it’s great!

I always keep my promises.

Week 3 – The Gordian Knot – Fear

Gordian knot, knot that gave its name to a proverbial term for a problem solvable only by bold action.

In 333 bc, Alexander the Great, on his march through Anatolia, reached Gordium, the capital of Phrygia. There he was shown the chariot of the ancient founder of the city, Gordius, with its yoke lashed to the pole by means of an intricate knot with its end hidden. According to tradition, this knot was to be untied only by the future conqueror of Asia. In the popular account, probably invented as appropriate to an impetuous warrior, Alexander sliced through the knot with his sword, but, in earlier versions, he found the ends either by cutting into the knot or by drawing out the pole.

The phrase “cutting the Gordian knot” has thus come to denote a bold solution to a complicated problem.

In the Master Key System, “fear” is the Gordian Knot.

The Readings:

G.S. I am prepared for wisdom and principles which will guide me out of the shadows into the sunlight of wealth, position, and happiness far beyond my most extravagant dreams until even the golden apples in the Garden of Hesperides will seem no more than my just reward.

G.S. Only principles endure and these I now possess . . .

G.S. What they will teach me is more to prevent failure than to gain success.

G.S. Failure is man’s inability to reach his goals in life, whatever they may be.

MKS: 7. When the Solar Plexus is in active operation and is radiating life, energy and vitality to every part of the body, and to every one whom he meets, the sensations are pleasant, the body is filled with health and all with whom he comes in contact experience a pleasant sensation.

MKS: 14. . . . Thoughts of courage, power, confidence and hope all produce a corresponding state, but the one arch enemy of the Solar Plexus which must be absolutely destroyed before there is any possibility of letting any light shine is fear.

MKS: 17. . . . The world is harsh only as we fail to assert ourselves.

MKS: 18. But the man who knows that he has a Solar Plexus will not fear criticism or anything else; he will be too busy radiating courage, confidence, and power; he will anticipate success by his mental attitude; he will pound barriers to pieces, and leap over the chasm of doubt and hesitation which fear places in his path.

MKS: Tension leads to mental unrest and abnormal mental activity of the mind; it produces worry, care, fear and anxiety. Relaxation is therefore an absolute necessity in order to allow the mental faculties to exercise the greatest freedom. . . . .(M)entally relax every muscle and nerve, until you feel quiet and restful and at peace with yourself and the world.

MKS: 33. The Solar Plexus will then be ready to function and you will be surprised at the result.

Me:

The Sit is the First Habit.

If, as Haanel writes, there is no possibility of letting any light shine when there is fear, I see The Sit as the precursor, the catalyst, the leavening, the yeast, that unleashes, fully frees, the light of the Solar Plexus.

Therefore, Fear is the Gordian Knot that I must cut, untangle, destroy, eliminate, purge in order to dispel the cloud of my old blueprint – and freeing the way for my DMP and other purposefully directed thoughts, desires, and actions, from here forward, to powerfully impressing my subconscious mind.

The Sit nutures the light of the Solar Plexus that the mind-forces, ever ready to lend themselves to a purposeful will, actively magnify through thoughts of courage, power, confidence; as well as actively convert the subtle and invisible forces of desire, faith and confidence into actual, tangible, concrete facts in the objective world.

I commit to The Sit – as directed – thoroughly and completely; always relaxing every muscle and nerve until I am quiet, restful, and at peace with myself and the world.

I always keep my promises.

Week 2 – More than Understanding

From the Readings:

H-2.20. It has been found that by plainly stating to the subconscious mind certain specific things to be accomplished, forces are set in operation that lead to the result desired. Here, then, is a source of power which places us in touch with Omnipotence.

H-2.23. The subconscious mind can not argue controversially. Hence, if it has accepted wrong suggestions,

G.S. Scroll I: I have surrendered my free will to the years of accumulated habits and the past deeds of my life have already marked out a path which threatens to imprison my future.

the sure method of overcoming them is by the use of a strong counter suggestion, frequently repeated, which the mind must accept, thus eventually forming new and healthy habits of thought and life, for the subconscious mind is the seat of Habit.

G.S. Scroll I: My bad habits must be destroyed and new furrows prepared for good seed. . . . only a habit can subdue another habit. I will form good habits and become their slave.

That which we do over and over becomes mechanical; it is no longer an act of judgment, but has worn its deep grooves in the subconscious mind.

G.S. Scroll I: . . . when an act becomes easy through constant repetition it becomes a pleasure to perform and if it is a pleasure to perform it is man’s nature to perform it often.

This is favorable for us if the habit be wholesome and right. If it be harmful, and wrong, the remedy is to recognize the omnipotence of the subconscious mind and suggest present actual freedom. The subconscious being creative and one with our divine source will at once create the freedom suggested.

H-2.28. . . . there is a vast difference between simply thinking, and directing our thought consciously, systematically and constructively; when we do this we place our mind in harmony with the Universal Mind, we come in tune with the Infinite, we set in operation the mightiest force in existence, the creative power of the Universal Mind.

G.S. Scroll I: As the words of these scrolls are consumed by my mysterious mind I will begin to awake, each morning, with a vitality I have never known before. My vigor will increase, my enthusiasm will rise, my desire to meet the world will overcome every fear I once knew at sunrise, and I will be happier than I ever believed it possible to be.

This, as everything else, is governed by natural law, and this law is the “Law of Attraction,” which is that Mind is creative, and will automatically correlate with its object and bring it into manifestation.

G.S. Scroll I: Today I begin a new life. And I make a solemn oath to myself that nothing will retard my new life’s growth.

Me:

I see that “understanding” or “comprehending” must be distinguished from “directing our thought consciously, systematically and constructively.” The former is clearly a function of the conscious mind – it evaluates a concept and has the capacity to agree or disagree. If the conscious mind does that and then moves on to other thoughts, that understanding is static – inactive. The subconscious mind is not “impressed” – pun intended. The latter is deliberately repeating that understanding in a fashion that does “impress” the subconscious mind such that it must accept and integrate that understanding into its processes. Hence, (t)hat which we do over and over becomes mechanical; it is no longer an act of judgment, but has worn its deep grooves in the subconscious mind.

The musician’s path to Carnegie Hall is practice, practice, practice. The hours and hours of directed practice is required not because they don’t understand the music. The hours and hours of directed practice is to fully leverage the powers of the subconscious mind to create, in collaboration with the conscious mind, a flawless and emotionally moving performance.

I must take care that my “understanding” doesn’t undermine or discount the need to actively direct my thoughts in a conscious, systematic and constructive manner toward my DMP. Therein lies the path to realizing my DMP – practice, practice, practice.

Week 1 – Practical Application

Hannel:

42. Thought forms the mold or matrix from which the substance expresses.

20. When the mind thinks correctly, when it understands the truth, when the thoughts sent through the cerebro-spinal system to the body are constructive, these sensations are pleasant, harmonious.

21. The result is that we build strength, vitality and all constructive forces into out body . . . .

15. (Thus, t)he world within is the practical world in which the men and women of power generate courage, hope, enthusiasm, confidence, trust and faith, by which they are given the fine intelligence to see the vision and the practical skill to make the vision real.

43. (I)t is in the application alone that the value consists . . . . (A) practical understanding of this law will substitute abundance for poverty, wisdom for ignorance, harmony for discord and freedom for tyranny . . .

ME:

I understand it. But that is not enough. I have to use it. I have to control it. I have to impregnate myself with it. Only then can I go forward to realizing my hopes, having my dreams come true – with a deeper, fuller, clearer meaning for my life.

I always keep my promises.
